# Voopoo Drag S3 battery life, coil by coil

> Voopoo Drag S3 battery life worked out, puffs per charge for each PnP X coil, Smart, RBA and Eco modes, USB-C charging time and a verdict by vaping style.

Retailer listings tend to sum up the **Voopoo Drag S3** in one figure, 3000 mAh. That number says nothing about how many puffs a charge really gives, nor why two owners of the same pod mod can report wildly different results. The answer sits between the built-in battery, the PnP X coil and the wattage, three factors taken here one at a time from the manufacturer's spec sheet and published reviews.

## Voopoo Drag S3 battery life from a 3000 mAh cell

A full charge of the **Voopoo Drag S3** holds roughly 10.8 watt-hours. With the direct-lung coils that UK kits ship with, that works out at about 215 to 405 three-second puffs, against 810 to 1,080 with a 0.8 ohm mouth-to-lung coil bought separately. These are theoretical ceilings that ignore circuit losses, and voltage sag near the end of a charge, heat and cell wear all cut them in practice.

Voopoo lists 3000 mAh, an output of 5 to 60 W and an output voltage of 3.2 to 4.35 V, but gives neither the cell's nominal voltage nor its energy. The sum therefore rests on a stated assumption, a nominal 3.6 V, the usual figure for lithium-ion cells, so 3.6 × 3 = 10.8 Wh, the basis of our other battery analyses. Divided by the wattage, that energy gives about 16 minutes of cumulative firing at 40 W, and about 11 at the 60 W ceiling.

## How many puffs per charge for each PnP X coil

The table sets the wattage range Voopoo publishes for each PnP X coil against the energy worked out above, for three-second puffs.

| PnP X coil | Stated style | Voopoo range | Firing time per charge (calculated) | 3-second puffs per charge (calculated) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 ohm | MTL | 10 to 13 W | 50 to 65 min | about 1,000 to 1,300 |
| 0.8 ohm | MTL | 12 to 16 W | 40 to 54 min | 810 to 1,080 |
| 0.6 ohm | MTL and RDL | 18 to 23 W | 28 to 36 min | 560 to 720 |
| 0.45 ohm | RDL | 25 to 32 W | 20 to 26 min | 405 to 520 |
| 0.3 ohm | DTL and RDL | 32 to 40 W | 16 to 20 min | 325 to 405 |
| 0.2 ohm | DTL | 40 to 60 W | 11 to 16 min | 215 to 325 |
| 0.15 ohm | DTL | 60 to 80 W | 11 min at the 60 W ceiling | about 215 |

From one end of the table to the other, the gap is more than five to one. A 0.8 ohm coil at 14 W draws about 3.6 times less energy per puff than a 0.2 ohm coil at 50 W, from the same battery.

The 0.15 ohm coil is a borderline case that matters in the UK. A UK retailer lists it pre-installed in its kit, as does the kit list of a UK review, yet its range starts at 60 W, the device's ceiling. A French review reports the Drag S3 will not accept it, while a UK review describes running it at 60 W with a clear hit to battery life. Our guide to [making vape battery life last longer](/uk/vape-battery-life/) covers the other settings that shift these figures.

## Smart, RBA and Eco modes, what each costs the battery

According to a French retailer's listing and a UK review published in November 2025, three quick presses of the Voopoo Drag S3 fire button open the menu, and five switch the device on or off. The menu holds three heating modes.

### Smart mode, wattage matched to the coil

The device picks the wattage from the coil resistance it detects, and consumption stays within the brackets of the table.

### RBA mode, free wattage from 5 to 60 W

The wattage is set by hand, and every extra watt costs battery life in direct proportion. Moving a 0.3 ohm coil from 32 to 40 W cuts the puffs per charge by a fifth. Above a coil's range, the wick also heats faster than it can soak up liquid, which wears the coil out early.

### Eco mode, power saving without an official figure

The same two sources describe it as a power-saving mode, with no consistent figure for the gain, and Voopoo does not describe it on its spec sheet. We therefore put no percentage on it.

## Charging the Drag S3 over USB-C

The battery cannot be removed, so every charge goes through the device's own port.

### At least an hour, in theory

Voopoo quotes charging at 5 V and 2 A, so 10 W at most. With 10.8 Wh to refill, a full charge needs at least 1 hour 5 minutes or so, longer in practice with losses and the usual slowdown near the end, and the manufacturer publishes no charging time. A wall adapter supplying 2 A at 5 V covers what the port asks for, as the spec sheet promises no faster charging. Our guide on [how long to charge a vape](/uk/how-long-to-charge-a-vape/) explains what slows a charge down.

### The battery-related protections

Of the six protections Voopoo lists, three concern the cell (overcharge, low battery, short circuit), the others the firing time limit, overheating and output over-current.

## Touch lock and accidental firing in a pocket

A pod mod that fires in a pocket drains its battery and heats a dry wick. According to the official spec sheet, the capacitive button of the Voopoo Drag S3 unlocks the device when a finger touches it and locks it again as soon as the finger lifts, so something pressing on the button in a bag should not, in principle, start firing. The retailer and review already mentioned describe a lock menu that changes that default, and Voopoo itself refers to several unlocking options. Leaving the device permanently unlocked removes that protection.

## Drag S3 review findings on battery life

Published reviews give orders of magnitude, never a measured protocol. The UK review mentioned above reports nearly two days of vaping between charges on the 0.3 ohm coil at 40 W, a setting for which our calculation gives about 325 puffs per charge, and a noticeable drop with the 0.15 ohm coil pushed towards 60 W. A French review describes the device as holding its charge well, without a measured figure. As for the 25% longer runtime Voopoo claims over the previous model, the spec sheet gives no test method alongside it.

## Verdict by vaping style

The Voopoo Drag S3 does not give every owner the same battery life, and each draw has its own balance point.

### Direct lung, the UK kit as sold

UK kits come with a 2 ml DTL pod, in line with the UK's 2 ml cap on refillable tanks, and two direct-lung coils (0.15 and 0.3 ohm at one retailer and in a UK review, 0.2 and 0.3 ohm at another retailer). On those coils a charge covers roughly 215 to 405 theoretical puffs, the style that leans hardest on a sealed battery. If charging is often awkward, a pod mod with a removable cell keeps an edge, such as the Drag X3, which takes an 18650 or 21700 cell sold separately and goes up to 80 W. Our article on [built-in or removable batteries](/uk/built-in-or-removable-battery/) compares both approaches.

### Restricted lung, a compromise worth watching

With the 0.6 or 0.45 ohm coil, theoretical battery life falls between 405 and 720 puffs, and Smart mode helps keep each coil inside its range.

### Mouth to lung, the longest charge

A 0.8 ohm coil gives 810 to 1,080 theoretical puffs per charge, the best endurance on the platform after the 1 ohm. In the UK, nicotine e-liquid is capped at 20 mg/ml in 10 ml bottles, in line with Voopoo's own recommendation of 20 mg or less for this device.

## FAQ

These questions come up often around the battery and practical handling of this pod mod.

### Is the Voopoo Drag S3 auto draw?

No, going by the listings read. Voopoo describes firing through a capacitive touch button, and a UK retailer lists the button as touch activated. None of the sources consulted mentions an auto-draw mode.

### Can you replace the Drag S3 battery?

The official spec sheet describes the battery as built in, and none of the three packing lists includes a spare. When the cell wears, the whole device loses battery life with it.

### Can you take the Drag S3 on a plane?

Yes, in the cabin, switched off and locked, like any vape. Its 10.8 Wh or so sits far below the 100 Wh limit per battery. The rules are set out in our guide to [taking a vape on a plane](/uk/vape-on-a-plane/).

### Is there an MTL version of the Drag S3 in the UK?

The MTL pod exists, with a 2 ml TPD version on Voopoo's packing lists, but UK kits are listed with the DTL pod. A UK review notes that the MTL pod is sold separately there.

### Is Voopoo a Chinese brand?

Yes. Voopoo belongs to the ICCPP group, which the brand's own site calls its parent company, and which was ranked in 2021 among the top 500 companies in Shenzhen, China.

## Voopoo Drag S3, battery life set by the coil

With around 10.8 Wh on board, the Drag S3 manages anywhere from about 215 to more than 1,000 puffs per charge depending on the coil and wattage, needs at least an hour to recharge over USB-C, and its battery cannot be replaced. To judge the battery life of a **Voopoo Drag S3**, the coil fitted and the heating mode therefore count far more than the 3000 mAh on the listing, a habit that holds for any device with a built-in battery and that guides how Vapelith looks at vaping hardware.
